Best in-ground automatic pool cleaner for vinyl or fiberglass surfaces

The Polaris 165 operates with the pump and filtration systems normally found on pools with vinyl or fiberglass surfaces, and installs in just minutes.

Powered by the pressure of clean water returning to the pool, the Polaris 165 pressure pool cleaner uses a patented jet sweep assembly that blows water against the pool wall to loosen debris in hard-to-reach places even if the pool has an uneven bottom. Its easy-to-remove filter bag captures debris before it reaches your pump basket or filter.

Features

  • The Polaris Vac-Sweep® 165 is designed for any vinyl or fiberglass in-ground pool, even those with an uneven bottom up to eight feet deep.
  • Installs in minutes. Operates with pumps and filtration systems normally found on in-ground pools. Vacuums the bottom and sweeps the sides in three hours or less.
  • Patented jet sweep assembly blows water against the pool wall to loosen debris in hard-to-reach places and then sweeps it into an easy-to-remove filter bag.
  • Powered by the pressure of clean water returning to your pool, leaving both the filter and skimmer free to eliminate contaminants.
  • Unique filter bag removes debris before it reaches your pump basket or filter, prolonging the life of your filtration system.

Frequently Asked Questions

Bag does not stay on pool floor.

1. Verify that the bag has been installed correctly.

2. Check for air bubbles around the jet body assembly. This may indicate air in the plumbing lines.

3. Ensure the jets are spraying evenly.

4. Verify that the water pressure is between 5 and 10 psi.

Note: The cleaner is operating too fast if the sweep hose and bag are not in contact with the pool bottom a majority of the time and the surface module changes directions more frequently than every 15 to 25 seconds. In this case, unscrew the pressure relief valve until the surface module slows down.

Polaris does not clean the entire pool or runs slowly.

1. Verify that the pressure relief valve is releasing water. If it is not, clean or backwash the pool filter.

2. Check the filter screen in the Quick Disconnect and clean if necessary.

3. Check that the eyeball regulators are installed in all of the return lines.

4. Verify that the float hose is the proper length.

5. Remove the surface module top. With the Polaris operating, verify that the randomizer tube is moving back and forth.

a. If the randomizer tube is not moving: Turn off pump, disconnect hoses, look into the mechanism and locate the filter connector inside the randomizer tube. If it is covered with debris or algae, remove the connector chamber, cylinder, and piston. Pull out the randomizer tube and clean the filter connector. If the connector is clean, replace the piston.

b. If the randomizer tube is moving: Watch the randomizer ball in the mechanism. If it does not move within 2 minutes, replace the randomizer tube and piston.

6. Verify that the water pressure is between 5 and 10 psi. A pressure tester (part #6-113-00) is available through your participating Polaris dealer.

Surface module dives under the water or leans to one side.

1. Straighten twisted hoses.

2. Lift surface module out of the water, empty it and then shake it. If water is still heard inside, remove the top, pull out the drain plug assembly and drain the module.

3. Adjust the pressure relief valve until the surface module levels off.

4. Verify that the water pressure is between 5 and 10 psi. A pressure tester (part #6-113-00) is available from an authorized Polaris dealer.

Surface module moves too fast.

1. Adjust the pressure relief valve until the surface module slows down.

2. Remove one of the eyeball regulators and readjust the pressure relief valve if necessary.

3. Verify that the water pressure is between 5 and 10 psi.

The float hose remains coiled.

1. Lay the float hose out straight in the sun to remove the coils.

2. Check the float hose length.

Cleaner does not climb/goes in circles.

Verify that the wheel RPM's are in the correct range and adjust the thrust jet. If the cleaner isn't climbing well then ensure the thrust jet is in the 11 o'clock position. If it is going in circles then angle the thrust jet so it is pointing opposite of the way the cleaner is turning. For example, if the cleaner is turning right then point the thrust jet to the left.

Cleaner does not move but there is pressure going to the unit.

Verify the wheel RPM's are in range. If they are low or the wheels are not spinning then check the in-line filter for debris. If clear and the wheels still aren't spinning then check the water management system for clogs. If the RPM's are slightly below the prescribed range then remove the restrictor disc from the wall connector. If the wheels are moving too quickly then install the red restrictor disc.

Hose(s) becomes tangled or coiled.

Check swivels and make sure they are spinning freely. Lay the hose out in the sun for 24 hours to eliminate any potential hose memory.

The cleaner is tipping over/floating.

Verify the wheel RPM's are in range. Ensure that the head float is not filled with water. Try running the cleaner without the bag and if it fixes the issue then clean the bag with soap and warm water. This will remove any biofilm/oils that may have accumulated in the bag.
